Inspections of construction sites are required on commencement of all projects to ensure that the construction stage health and safety plan has been implemented. This inspection needs to be carried out on behalf of the client to ensure obligations under the Construction Design and Management Regulations (CDM Regulations) are satisfied.

Regulations also advise that contractors need to ensure by inspection that operations on site are carried out in compliance with risk assessments and the site safety plan. Inspections can be carried out by site staff but it is custom and practice within the construction industry for an independent inspector to carry out monthly visits.
